Acquisitions Signal Growth For Wright Homes

Wright Homes – the house building division of the Hull-based Wright Group – have announced a major programme of expansion which will result in the division more than doubling the number of houses it builds each year and expanding its area of operations. Wright Homes Director Matthew Watts said:

"Traditionally we've built in the East Riding villages and in Hull but we are now also moving further afield. For example we are currently working on our first development in York and have also agreed terms to purchase a second site in York. Whilst Hull and the East Riding will remain at the heart of our operations we will also be expanding further into North Yorkshire, particularly along the coast, and possibly into West Yorkshire. To date Wright Homes have built approximately 50 houses a year but the company are now planning to double that to 100 during the next 12 months and to between 125 and 150 per year over the next few years.

"The key factor in our expansion is to ensure that we have sufficient land to service the increased production. In this respect Wright Homes have recently acquired a site in Cottingham for 51 houses and have also purchased a site in Keyingham. We have also agreed terms to purchase further land in the Beverley area for up to 40 houses, in Willerby for eight properties, and on our new site in York there will be 14 properties. Combined, these sites give us the platform to increase capacity over and above our existing sites in York, Long Riston, Sigglesthorne and Willerby, said Mr Watts. Wright Homes are also looking to secure further joint venture partnerships, such as the 170 home Urban Sensation development on Sculcoates Lane which Wrights are developing in association with Horncastle Group PLC. The second development under the Urban Sensation brand consists of a development of 30 houses in Beverley, and work is scheduled to begin in the Spring.

To ensure that Wright's business continues to grow in future years, the company are looking for further land across the East Riding and North Yorkshire and have introduced an incentive scheme to encourage their staff to let them know of any land opportunities. Wright Homes's relaunched website also features a ‘Land Required' section (www.wrighthomes.co.uk).

The Wright Group have been operating from Hull for 100 years and the vast majority of its employees are local people. As well as house building, the Group are involved in construction and commercial property development.
